    Les thématiques abordées par l’équipe concernent l’étude des réponses adaptives et fonctionnelles des communautés végétales face aux contraintes environnementales. Les problématiques se structurent le long d’un axe écologie évolutive-écologie fonctionnelle et, conduisent pour certaines d’entre elles, à des outils plus appliqués liés à la gestion des écosystèmes (e.g. indicateurs de l’état écologique des écosystèmes, invasibilité, dynamique des communautés). Les études sont majoritairement menées sur les écosystèmes aquatiques et les communautés végétales qui leur sont associées.

    Notre projet scientifique se structure autour de 3 axes principaux:

    • Evolution des génomes et des phénotypes (Axe 1)
    • Réponses des communautés végétales aux stress et perturbations : stratégies adaptatives et dynamique des communautés (Axe 2)
    • Rôle fonctionnel des végétaux sur le fonctionnement des écosystèmes (Axe 3)

    Les contraintes étudiées sont principalement les contraintes hydrauliques et hydrologiques, les contraintes trophiques, les polluants, le climat et les invasions biologiques, avec l’objectif de prendre en compte les interactions entre différentes contraintes (exposition des communautés végétales à des stress multiples). Les réponses des végétaux sont analysées à différents niveaux d’organisation: traits fonctionnels (chimiques et métaboliques, biomécaniques, anatomiques, architecturaux, génétiques ou génomiques), diversité génétique à l’échelle des populations, structure et dynamique des communautés. Les interactions entre la végétation et le fonctionnement des écosystèmes sont principalement étudiées au travers de la productivité et du cycle de la matière et des interactions biotiques et de l’invasibilité.

    Objectifs scientifiques
    Axe 1 : Evolution des génomes et des phénotypes (E. Martel, F. Piola, D. Prat, M. Thiébaut)
    L’objectif est d’étudier les mécanismes impliqués dans l’évolution des génomes (éléments transposables, régimes et modes de reproduction, hybridation, contraintes environnementales et/ou d’origine anthropique) et les conséquences pour les phénotypes (métabolome), la biodiversité intraspécifique (diversité génétique) et les processus de spéciation. Ces problématiques sont menées sur deux modèles principaux, un complexe d’espèces invasives (genre Fallopia) et des espèces rares du genre Epipactis, présentant des contrastes très forts en termes de traits d’histoire de vie structurant les modes de reproduction (modes de reproduction, capacité de multiplication végétative, hybridation… ), de dispersion et in fine les processus étudiés.

    Axe 2 : Réponses des communautés végétales aux stress et perturbations : traits fonctionnels, stratégies adaptatives et dynamique des communautés (A.-K. Bittebiere, G. Guignard, F. Piola, M. Philippe, S. Puijalon, F. Thévenard, M. Thiébaut)
    L’objectif est d’identifier les adaptations et réponses plastiques adaptatives des végétaux aux contraintes environnementales abiotiques (stress, perturbations) ou biotiques (compétition interspécifique) et les conséquences pour la dynamique de la biodiversité. Les réponses des végétaux aux contraintes environnementales sont abordées à différents niveaux de la biodiversité (trait, organisme, espèce ou communauté) et à différentes échelles de temps (des échelles de temps comparables à la durée de vie d’un organisme jusqu’à des temps longs pour l’étude des réponses évolutives).

    Axe 3 : Rôle des végétaux dans le fonctionnement des écosystèmes (A.-K. Bittebiere, M. Philippe, F. Piola, S. Puijalon)
    L’objectif est d’étudier comment les espèces végétales et leurs réponses à différentes contraintes affectent le fonctionnement des écosystèmes. Plusieurs fonctions importantes des végétaux pour le fonctionnement des écosystèmes sont étudiées: structuration physique de l’habitat (dynamique sédimentaire, écoulement en milieu lotique), production primaire et assimilation des nutriments minéraux, métabolisme secondaire et interactions biotiques, rôle dans les cycles de la matière.
